Moving Tips and Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How to Get an Estimate for Moving?
A: To estimate your move we encourage you to fill out our Online Estimate Form. Alternatively and at any time you can Give us a Call at 416-579-6683. If you live in the area, we will visit your place to evaluate the amount of inventory and packing work needed. This visit is FREE of charge and is part of our total service package. If you are outside of Greater Toronto Area, we will speak with you in detail over the phone – and get all the information on your inventory and other important details to provide you with the quote.

Q: When Is The Best Time To Move?
A: If there is a choice, most moving companies suggest you avoid the summer, beginning or end of the month or winter holidays. The heaviest demands are placed on trucks, equipment and personnel during these periods.

However, you should move when it's most convenient for you. Factors involved in the decision may include:

  • Whether the move must be made immediately.
  • Transferring children during the school term.
  • Separation of the family while the move is under way.

If the move can be scheduled for a time when trucks and trained personnel are most readily available, we'll be better equipped to meet your preferred delivery schedule.

Q: When Should I Call a Moving Company?
A: The earlier, the better. Depending on the time of the year, we could possibly accommodate you within a week. Please call our office and ask about availability if you need move on short notice.

Q: How Long Will My Move Take?
A: The length of time your move will take depends on the services you request and the quantity of items moved, along with difficulty of access and length of walks at origin and destination, direction and distance your shipment is traveling, weather, how prepared you are, etc.  Feel free to fill in one of our online estimate forms for a better idea of costs and time.

Q: What Happens If It Rains, Snows Or The Weather Is Bad?
A: Move4less Inc. will always honor our moving commitments regardless of weather. Unpredictable weather might slow down the job but weather is unavoidable. If your move occurs on a day where the weather is acting up our movers will take precautions to protect floors and carpeting from excess dirt and soil.

Q: What Type Of Truck And Equipment Should I Expect From Move4Less?
A: Move4Less provides quality transportation on fully equipped, professional moving trucks. These trucks are equipped with furniture blankets (to prevent scratches), dollies (to transfer furniture and boxes), and loading ramps (to decrease the amount of loading and unloading time).

Q: How Will You Protect My Furniture?
A: All furniture moved will be wrapped in thick quilted furniture blankets. We secure them with stretch wrap or tape to eliminate damages and scratches to your furniture. We also use cargo straps on our trucks to tie down and secure certain objects from shifting during transit.

Q: Do You Sell Packing Materials?
A: Yes. We have everything you need for self packing. We also offer full packing services. From boxes to bubble wrap, the materials you need are available at our warehouse at competitive prices.

Q: What is The Minimum Charge?
A: Most companies have a minimum number of work hours. Move4Less has three hours (2 hours of labour plus 1 hour travel time).

Q: How We Determine Travel Time?
A: Travel time is ”the time it takes for crew to travel to your origin from their dispatch, and return trip upon completion”. Travel time is not the time it takes to travel from your old apartment to your new apartment; that is part of the work time. Move4Less determines total travel time (1 hour flat for moves in Toronto).

Q: Am I Protected Against Loss or Damage?
A: Yes, but only for the type of protection you choose.  Be sure to choose your protection carefully.

Q: How And When Should I Pay?
A: Tariff provisions require that all charges be paid before your shipment is unloaded at destination. Payment for your move can be made by one of the following methods: cash, money order, certified check or cashier's check. In addition, the Visa or MasterCard can be used too (with advance approval). Personal checks are not accepted.

Q: Do I Tip The Movers?
A: Like all over service businesses, movers generally receive a gratuity upon completion. You should never feel pressured into giving at tip.
